We have been desensitised
I came across an interview with Max Stahl and recalled that his images were part of the first evening news I recall watching on TV (along with the green night skies of the Gulf war). I also recall how they advised on the explicit contents and put a red circle on the top right corner of the screen (still used in Portuguese TV to advise on explicit contents). The images were so ingrained in my memory that when I read the interview and watched the short clips I knew exactly what was happening next.
But now those images seem to have less impact. We have been exposed to so much violence, that a child’s dead body washing ashore is yesterday’s news, and people have even forgotten the videos of humans being beheaded that were in the news earlier this year.
Will the ten year old children of now remember that photo in twenty years?
