Pedal London

Diverti-me e recomendo.

After a long time considering to buy or not to buy a bike I pedalled 7 miles.

The main reason why I didn’t buy a bike is the “other side of the road” syndrome. I am used to the continental way of driving and was a bit scared of entering a road or even a roundabout on the wrong side or direction. However, as I drove here a few times I thought that maybe it wouldn’t be so hard.

Now that “Boris bikes” can be hired straight at the docking station I decided to try. After lunch I picked up one of the bikes and pedalled from Queensway to Whitechapel with 2 pit stops to check the map. These were mainly because I didn’t want to climb Penton Rise and was looking for paths to avoid it. This means that to use this bikes you should maybe have a smart phone so you can check the maps and eventually get an app to tell you where to find and dock the bicycle (as the docks tend to be outside main roads).

I really enjoyed the ride. Although the bikes weigh like a tonne (well maybe something more like 20Kg) and only have 3 gears they seem great for those distances that are too long to walk but that I would rather pedal than get into the tube, especially in rush hour. Now I just have to wait for the Olympics to get some of those bikes outside my door…
